Whether you live in Devon or are simply visiting, it is highly likely that at some point you will explore the glorious expanses of Dartmoor National Park and its legendary Tors. Lovely to look at, but even better to climb, these natural stone formations are one of my favourite places to indulge the family in a bit of outdoor adventure – no equipment needed.

Having scrambled the rocks on Haytor, or my own personal favourite, Hound Tor, we are always ready for a much needed energy injection and Ullacombe Farm Cafe is the perfect place to find just that. Just a few minutes drive away, this lovely place always has a warming soup on the go as well as light lunches and a selection of delicious cakes – all homemade and mostly making use of their own and local produce. It has a gorgeous wood burning stove in the winter and you are always made to feel very welcome, even with muddy boots and noisy children in tow.

For early birds, I can thoroughly recommend the cooked breakfast – made with their own bacon and other local produce – it makes a perfect start to a day exploring the moor!
